Making history: Two of the climbers ascend the 'Wine Bottle' rock for the first time in Chad's remote Ennedi desert after travelling hundreds of miles across desert
If you blinked, you might miss these two intrepid climbers, looking like ants in a giant rock garden.
But they made history by being the first mountaineers to ascend an awesome formation in a remote part of Chad.
Untouched by humans, this is the stunning desert home to the stacks, arches and 1,000 feet walls of rock that dominate the Ennedi Plateau - long regarded as the holy grail of the climbing community.
'It's fair to say we were like kids in a candy store', said climber and photographer Jimmy Chin. 'This was like finding a new continent for climbers, literally. I was stunned at the rugged nature of the landscape.'

He travelled last December with a crack team from his home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to the 20,000 square miles of virgin African climbing territory in central Chad that are reminiscent of Utah's Monument Valley.
Equipped with three trucks and provisions for three weeks, Jimmy, 38, and his team slept in the desert and braved armed bandits - just so they could make each climb there the first.
After flying 8,000 miles to the country, the team spent four days driving hundreds of miles across the desert on dirt roads to reach the remote and almost inaccessible Ennedi Plateau.
Occasionally, they would cross paths with nomadic camel troupes.

'There was some element of a long shot about this, but you know if you go on a trip with Mark it is going to be difficult, it is going to pose problems, it is going to question you as a climber.'
Likening the journey into the wastelands of the plateau as like travelling back in time, Jimmy and the team came across the local people who spent their days hiding from the 38-degree heat in straw huts.
'Even in December the temperature was extreme,' said Jimmy. 'In summer the thermometer can exceed 47 degrees. '
Able to support themselves with petrol, food and shelter the adventurers were stunned when the open expanse of the desert exploded into the land that time forgot.
'Visually it was just like the canyon lands of Utah,' explained Jimmy.

'We saw arches, stacks and walls that we knew had never been ascended before. This was a dream scenario, there was unlimited potential there.
'You are talking about 200ft high stacks, 1,000ft high walls, all there ready to be climbed.'
Faced with an enormous amount of choice, Jimmy and his team approached the Ennedi methodically. 'We decided to climb the 12 most impressive features we could see in the three weeks we had.
'We climbed the fabled Aloba Arch, which at 700ft tall and 300ft wide is the tallest free standing arch in the world.'
In the middle of their ground-breaking tour, the team faced off against possibly their greatest challenge - bandits.

Jimmy said: 'At one point after a climb, all of us but James were confronted by a gang of four armed with ten-inch daggers.They were trying to edge us away from our cars, which were still some distance away.
'They were gesturing for our cameras and equipment, dressed in head scarves and they were extremely aggressive. James appeared on the scene off the side of one of the rock formations and I indicated to him to run back to the cars.
'I managed to document over 5,000 photographs during my time there and it was one of the pleasures of my life to be the first to explore such pristine and virgin climbing routes.'

January Jones's ex boyfriend Jason Sudeikis opened last night's MTV Movie Awards with a hilarious sketch based on The Hangover sequel - which saw Eva Mendes get her face tattooed.
In the skit, Jason, 35, agrees to have a beer with The Hangover's Justin Bartha and Twilight star Taylor Lautner after a yoga session.
He first wakes up confused and finds he is sat on the wall of Osama Bin Laden's Pakistani hide-out.

However, he then wakes inside to find he's in a filthy hotel room with Eva in his bathtub - but no Lautner.
Eva meanwhile discovers she's got a 'Team Jacob Forever' tattoo on her cheek, referring to Lautner's Twilight character Jacob Black.
As she sees the facial decoration in the mirror, she screams: 'What the f***?! I'm Team Edward. I've always been Team Edward,' of course referring to Robert Pattinson's character Edward Cullen.

Sudeikis then stumbles in on Black Swan's Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis getting passionate, finds James Franco trapped in a canyon from 127 Hours and chats to Justin Timberlake - as Sean Parker - in The Social Network over the phone.
He finally finds the Twilight hunk - missing a finger which Mendes has bitten off - making out with Kunis and Portman.
Meanwhile, The Other Guys star has revealed that she can't cook.
The star - who has been in a relationship with George Augusto for nine years - says she is so hopeless in the kitchen so relies on restaurant food and home deliveries to ensure she gets the nourishment she needs, when she's not biting off Taylor Lautner's fingers, that is.

She admitted: 'I open the fridge and don't know how to get from point A to point B. I do want to start because I feel really pathetic - at a certain age you've got to learn how to provide for yourself.
'We get home delivery meals three times a week and we go out the rest of the time. It's so embarrassing.'
Eva is currently filming See If I Care alongside Matthew Modine and Patricia Arquette.
A comedy drama, it's due out next year.

The MTV Movie Awards meanwhile were the usual mix of controversy and fun.
While there were no Brunos descending from the ceiling onto unsuspecting Eminems, Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis raised eyebrows when they groped each other's private parts onstage.
Robert Pattinson also landed a kiss on Taylor Lautner and shocked the audience by using the f-word.

But fans hoping to see the bridal costume of Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart, will have to wait.
Producers have only offered a hint of her outfit, with close-up shots of the gleaming white stone in her ring as her hand clasps Edwards, and of her jewelled hair clip and veil.
During filming of the scenes the cast and crew went to extreme lengths to prevent prying eyes seeing the wedding.
Swathes of tarpaulin, huge marquees, road blocks and armed police were all used to keep the scenes under wraps.

But as she looks into the mirror in awe of the life growing inside her, the fairytale takes a turn for the worse - she endures a stabbing pain in her stomach, leaving her bent double.
And it seems that Bella isn't the only one who will be suffering, as the trailer starts we see that not everyone is happy about their nuptials.

As the wedding invitations are received by Bella's friends and family her father appears subdued while fans of Team Jacob will be pleased to see that Taylor Lautner is as buff as ever as he runs off shirtless into the forest, frantic after learning of the wedding.
The Twilight cast were out in force at the MTV Movie Awards last night, where the two-minute trailer was shown and Kristen and Robert were awarded the gong for Best Kiss.
While the couple took to the stage to collect their award RPatz clearly didn't want co-star Lautner to feel left out and the British actor jumped off stage to kiss his male colleague, instead of his girlfriend.

It turned into a Twilight night when the franchise picked up the awards for Best Movie, Best Male Performance, Best Female Performance and Best Fight.
While the awards saw the first showing of the longer trailer the anticipation about the film was such that fans couldn't wait, and stills of the couple consummating their marriage and Bella giving birth were leaked.
Author Stephanie Meyer released a statement begging fans not to post photos and to wait for the film.
She wrote: 'Please, for those who are posting, stop.
And please, though the temptation is high, don’t view or pass on these images. Wait for the film in its beautiful, finished entirety to thrill you.'
Die-hard fans have longed for this happy ending for four years.
However, the couple's happiness is short-lived. Bella's daughter is a half-vampire half-human daughter who prefers sucking on her blood to drinking warm milk.
The rest of the two films see Bella fighting a lethal battle with her unborn child who grows rapidly inside her, feeding off her blood and eventually leading Bella to her death bed.
This forces Edward to make the life-changing decision, to lose the human Bella he loves forever, or to finally give in to her dying wish and give her the eternal life she has been asking for.
The MTV Movie Awards will be shown on MTV tonight at 9pm.

The MTV Movie Awards is known for its crude jokes and risqué behaviour.
But no one was expecting the foul-mouthed, F-word laden exchange between Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson at the star-studded event in Los Angeles last night.
Reese, 35, who was honoured for the Generation Award, was introduced by her co-star and friends, Patrick Dempsey, Chelsea Handler and 25-year-old Robert.

And the the trio's toasts to the actress went from sincere to crude in a matter of moments.
It all started when the Twilight star began his speech.
He recalled that Reese played his mother in the very first film he appeared in, 2004 British costume drama, Vanity Fair.
He said that he blamed the Oscar-winning actress for some of his scenes being cut from the film.
Flashing forward seven years, he then referred to their most recent film, Water For Elephants.
'Seven years later we worked together on a movie called Water For Elephants and you played my mother...I didn't cut you out, but I did f*** you,' he exclaimed.

Robert then proceeded to embarrass the Walk The Line actress even further.
He said that he had learned lessons from Reese during the time that he knew her.
'Now I know that Southern girls can wear girdles but they can't talk about it, Tequila is like Lays chips, you can't just have one, and that it is possible to be 33 percent lesbian,' he said.
And the banter didn't stop there.

And then after a long pause she informed Robert that he had missed the punchline with his joke.

'You're the best motherf***** in Hollywood,' she suggested was a better way of telling the gag, referring to how she had played his mother and lover.

'It's also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show,' she said.
And in a surprising almost direct dig at Gossip Girl's Blake Lively, she said: 'And if you take naked pictures of yourself with your cell phone, you hide your face.'

What Reese was referring to is the controversial pictures that surfaced online last week, purportedly showing the actress posing naked in a series of self-portraits, Blake has since said that the risqué snaps are '100 per cent fake'.

Running into the crowd, Robert ran straight up to co-star Taylor Lautner and laid a big kiss on his lips, much to the crowd's screaming delight.

The 17-year-old was reportedly supposed to a no show at the event, when he took to the stage to be awarded by Danny McBride, Nick Swardson and Aziz Ansari.
Earlier his girlfriend Selena Gomez nearly let the cat out of the bag when she walked the red-carpet solo, and was asked by numerous reporters 'if her boyfriend was attending', to which she first replied 'yes' before quickly saying 'no!'
Other highlights of the night was Emma Watson debuting the never-seen-before new clip for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, which is due to be released in July this year.
